In the mid-twentieth century, the Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier coined the French term “béton brut,” meaning “raw concrete,” to describe the aesthetic of walls and surfaces cast from exposed concrete without any additional finishing. The result revealed formwork impressions, construction traces, and the honest texture of the material itself.

This raw quality became one of the defining signatures of Brutalist architecture and continues to shape contemporary design thinking to this day.

Installation Guide Concreate®

Surface Preparation and Layout Planning

Unbox the panels and allow them to rest in the installation area to acclimatize to the ambient temperature and humidity of the site. Ensure the wall surface is dry, clean, and flat. Draw panels from multiple boxes and arrange them to achieve a natural distribution of tone and surface pattern. Concreate® can be installed over gypsum board, plywood, cement board, or concrete walls that have been tested to meet standard moisture requirements.

Cutting and Panel Preparation

Measure the installation area and cut panels as required using the Score and Snap method, or standard cutting tools such as a circular saw, table saw, or jigsaw. Sand any edges as needed to achieve a clean finish before installation.

Installation and Finishing

Bond panels using polyurethane adhesive or a decorative-grade cement adhesive. Press each panel firmly against the wall and check alignment throughout. Complete the installation with flush butt joints, and finish corners or edges by sanding and touching up with matching colour as needed.

*Note: Do not apply tape of any kind directly onto the Concreate® surface. Doing so may cause permanent damage to the finish and will void the warranty.

Concreate® products have been independently tested to confirm that VOC and formaldehyde emissions remain within accepted standards, with no detected presence of asbestos, lead, or cadmium. Safe for use in both residential and public spaces.
